The BIG BIG BIG FRESNO FAIR!

October 13, 2010 § Leave a comment

I have a long standing love affair with the Fresno Fair. It runs deep and is true. There is something about the people, disgustingly wonderful food, weird crafts and displays and performances that just make my heart swoon.

A lot of north enders are afraid to head down to the fair. Seriously, it is really safe. Especially during the day. There are a ton of great things for kids to do and it’s really a memorable experience. I mean don’t stay till midnight and walk through a neighborhood alone or leave your kids with a “Carnie” that’s just not smart. If you take the very basic of precautions, you’ll seriously be fine.

Others don’t come because the fair is pricey. I get it. It is real pricey. BUT BUT BUT tomorrow you get FREE entrance to the fair, for the low low price of bringing in 4 canned food items. Who doesn’t have 4 canned food items lying around? If finances are an issue, tomorrow is your day!

My roommates and I decided to take a roommate date at the fair. My schedule happens to be INSANE this next week and last, so this was my ONLY opportunity to go to the fair. Here’s what I did with my hour at the fair.

Tacos with Roomies

a few for me too!

Corn on the Cob

Laughed a lot at these hats! They are everywhere!

It’s worth coming to the fair just to watch people. It’s amazing.

I sprung for the super jumbo. That’s how I roll.

Then after all the marathon eating. I was able to watch MUTTON BUSTING! What is Mutton busting you ask? Well, it’s my new favorite sport. You put a 6 year old under 60 pounds on the back of a running sheep and see how long they can hang on. It’s the most entertaining thing I have ever seen in my life. The kids absolutely love it and feel like rodeo champions. It’s the most ridiculous hick activity in the world which makes it absolutely wonderful. It is sooo entertaining. I took video of it. Be checking our facebook out to see it. It’s amazing.

You only have until Sunday to check out the fair. Make sure you get down there and experience it for yourself.

When you do, upload pics of you at the fair to our facebook page! We’d love to see your favorite tasty treats and events!

Tonight Chance and I went to the Greek Festival . We’ve never been there before, so we thought we’d go check it out. We arrived a little late and had unfortunately already ate right before so we didn’t try any of the dinner food, but it looked AMAZING. We walked around and grabbed some Baklava and watched people have a ball while they learned traditional Greek dances. There were little booths selling crafts and things (similar to Big Hat Days, but on a smaller scale). They had lots of booze, Gyros, and Greek treats. The kids area was cute and had fun booths where kids could get their faces painted as well as bouncy slides and craft areas.  Before we headed out, Chance grabbed some Loukoumades (basically little donut holes). They were delish, not as sweet as donuts, but still very good.

Even though it’s been EXTREMELY hot the past few days, tonight was perfect! I was wearing two layers of clothing and didn’t break a sweat, (and that’s saying a lot coming from me because I can usually sweat in 70 degree weather). The wind was refreshing and it’s so nice to enjoy the outside weather in August in FRESNO! Thank you Fresno, you gave us a nice little breezy surprise tonight…you sweet little thing you.

Here are a few pictures of us trying to look fly in the wind and the last picture we took while waiting in line for some yummy Loukoumades.
